Post subject:  M1 Wheelchair certified Vehicles - What councils need info?

Hi

Can someone supply me with a list of councils which don't need a M1 certificate to get a wheelchair vehicle passed?

I'm advertising my vehicle on Ebay at present and stated the vehicle comes as "M1 taxi passed" and upto "M1 specifications". However, it has just come to light that the place where I purchased the vehicle from (Gainmanor - Silverlink) has not converted the Doblo to receive the certificate as Newcastle don't require this paperwork - unlike Sunderland who do.

Therefore the vehicle won't get passed by all councils and I would like to know which councils would pass it before I sold it.

It wasn't falsely advertised as I presumed it had the certificate.

I've got a guy coming from West Yorkshire tomorrow and want clarification before he parts with any cash.

Cheers
Chris

Surely the best thing to do is to ring his LO when he is there.

If im not mistaken M1 is Euro type approved anchorage and access points for wheelchair suitable taxis.

All councils will enforce it by 2010 some maybe sooner than later.

Europe ???????? Strange i dont remember a referendum?

Lets not even go down the FX and Eurobus only route...................yet!

I believe there are two differences.

Some vehicles are converted to M1 specification and then tested as such. The certification is the evidence of type approval and that the conversion is fully tested.

Other converters use parts that have been tested to M1 specification individually but not actually whilst fixed to a vehicle. These vehicles are therefore not certificated.

The former is generally more expensive than the latter and so a lot of people would choose the cheaper option if it was not a local requirement to produce a certificate.

In my opinion all vehicles should be certified before they are considered, but unfortunately people claim that their vehicles are something other than they are. Professional converters may convert a Peugeot Expert (for example) but it doesn't make that vehicle an E7.

Its about raising standards ................ and making sure a specific vehicle reaches the standard is something that should be properly considered.
