I am one of those that says that oil usage must be cut now! and we will see policies soon that does that. but before we see the oil depleat watch out for the lights going out, capitalism has been so efficient that we are using electricity almost as fast as we are producing it and gas is being used more than its being produced. fortunatly we can get gas from coal, produce electricity from burning coal wood or even dead bodies, and rubbish of course and we can produce it from windpower. Bad news though aircraft needs high octaine fuel and that means petrol, so along with concorde that lot will become meusium pieces. Taxis and buses could be horse powered, but private hire cars alas cannot but they can go, we will have to restrict numbers as there has to be enough stables at the council level to put them, if they are mistreated, thats where limit by numbers came from. but life can slow we can have more leasure and produce more kids like we used to! the ready availability of the motor car is a curse and needs cutting Now. No need to be alarmed about this, there is some superb work going on in the field of different solutions to the combustion engine that we have all come to know and love/hate, take a look at Ballard power system's brilliant fuel cell technology and realize that when the fossil fuel's run dry we will all be driving around in zero emission vehicles, absolutely brilliant.

I dont think that using veggie oil is illegal. For each litre you use, you have to give the chancellor about 30p in fueltax, and add a spoonful of turps (ethanol or somethin...) Then you can drive around the toon belching out fumes that smell like your local chippie. |

Geoff I almost wholeheartedly agree with you, although there are no panaceas here. Not coal, biodiesel, nor fuel cells. Fuel cells (hydrogen) only allow the transportation of energy; the problem is there will be shortages in primary energy to support it. The growing of oil-seed-rape en-masse for biodiesel will mean less food for a level of population that won't be able to be fed; we certainly won't be able to produce more children. Bill Bryson's book "Made In America" mentioned how stinky certain cities became when they used horses en-masse  I remember there was some alternative to kerosene mentioned in the Millenium Dome, but what it was escapes me right now

More articles here: http://www.dieoff.com/page171.htm http://www.lifeaftertheoilcrash.net/PageTwo.html Jason about those that wont be fed, I think looking at the papers its already been decided, basicly those in the middle east who have oil wells now. did you know there is an oil for food programme in Iraq? you couldnt make it up, we feed them and whilst they eat we nick the oil aint we cute? but its true about the horses, they still drive public transport with horses in Blackpool and the air stinks almighty! can you imagine what the world will be like without oil? no more looking for terrorists, (we will all know they are in the whiite house and downing street) no more looking for weapons of mass destruction ( ha ha haha they are looking in the wrong place! they are in Britain and the US, could direct you to some right now! in fact ive told tony where they are!)
