Now that the tide is turning on Dereg/Delimit Taxi Owner should maintaine the momentum and push on to the next battle.
RECLAIM THE TAXI TRADE.
Make the distinction between Taxis & PH clear in the eyes of the public, the LA's that license the trade and the decision takers at government level.
If a member of the public phones for a Taxi they should get a Taxi.
Steps to re-establish the Taxi trade as a profession as historically granted by royal charter.
1) No mixed circuits, if you advertise Taxi you must supply a Taxi to customers.
2) Ban PH cars from using Taximeters. A PH operator must enter a contract (verbally is just as binding and valid) stating clear the price for the job when accepting a booking.
3) No mixed advertising. All Taxi Owners/Operators should boycott any publication that lists Taxis and PH together as one. Each should have its own section. YP has done more to elevate the status of PH and confuse the public than any other publication. A Taxi is a TAXI a PH is not a Taxi by another name.
4) Ban any on car advertising, roof signs etc that could in any way confuse the public and mislead them into believing the vehicle is a taxi or in any way available for direct hire.
5) Change the name of PH licences rename and re-define their role. If as they claim they have a market and trade in their own right then let them work it.

We know that's not the solution, wholesale Dereg/Delimit does not work. There is not one area than can demonstrate that Dereg/De-limit has been beneficial to the travelling public, the customer does not benefit. I do not think a 2 tier system is the best way but currently there is no better system on offer. But if a customer asks for a taxi that what he should get. Who would accept a vet if they wanted a doctor ? Both could treat you but would it be acceptable to the average person ?
Taxis were granted the status of a profession by royal charter it is a protected trade. We need to restore our standing. I have had enough of the denegration of my trade.

I have NEVER read so much BULL in my life!

1. The public want taking from a-b by a legal, safe vehicle. Be it Hac or PH.
2. Taxi meters are the fairest way of charging for a job, how many times are punters quoted for a job then decide to vary the route to pick someone else up or find a cash machine?
3. Many many companies have both on the system and it works well, why change it?
4. With delimitation it wont matter.
5. Great idea, let Hac's pay for their own ranks and stuff instead of PH paying for it out of their license fee's. (but it wont matter because we'll all be the same soon) Not forgetting that when it happens a £30k WAV will cost 30k, not 30k plus another 30k for the plate!!!!

Just Delimit and make everybody the same! Job done!

Here Here, couldn't have put it better myself, bunch of wanabees with a royal charter!

However just to round off T.'s tirade what about:- hackneys can only be used in person at ranks or by hailing and PHV's should serve only the Pre-booked trade by telephone, e-mail, fax etc .( NO PHONE BOOKING OF HACKNEYS )

That is 2 distinct and separate markets served by 2 distinct and separate taxi services!

What do you say to that T. ?

PEOPLE ASK FOR A TAXI.
NO-ONE EVER, EVER ASKS FOR A PH.

WE ALL KNOW THIS IS A FACT.
THERE IS NO PH TRADE IN ITS OWN NAME.
IF PH COULD NOT ADVERTISE IN THE SAME SECTION AS TAXIS THEIR PHONE WOULD NEVER RING.

But that's an argument about terminology, not about the substantive service.

So when a PH car turns up do the people who've phoned for a taxi turn it away?

No, of course not, and indeed perhaps they're phoning PH because they don't want to use the 'real' taxi service, as per Delta in Liverpool.

As usual Mr TaxiTesco your argument is purely about your own vested interests.

AND PLEASE DON'T SHOUT, YOU'LL GIVE ME A HEADACHE 8)

By the same token people do not ask for a hackney carriage which is almost certainly what it says on your plate.

You really are splitting hairs as you know as well as I do that that the public talk about "taxis" interchangeably.

However I re-iterate my question. Would you accept that PHVs should be pre-booked by phone and Hackneys only in person?

If you choose to ignore this or fail to answer yes or no, then I will form my own judgement of your motives ie ME ME ME ME ME

People know what Hackney Carriage & Taxi means 99% havent a clue what a PH is they may have heard the term but do not know the destinction.
This site TDO is a pro PH site masquarading as a pro taxi site. Why is this TAXI ONLINE and not PH ONLINE. The admin know no-one would bother to look unless they used the word TAXI.
At every level PH only exist because of the Taxi trade. Thats why they try so hard to perpetuate the confusion.
I am NOT anti PH, I only have a problem with PH's misleading everyone into believing they are Taxis and that they are governed by the same rules as Taxis.

If i were you i'd get my sign ready, so you can take people from the bus stop to town for a quid!

Where as PH will have a booking just around the corner to take their neighbour to town for full fare!! And at our rates, not some the council make up!

Don't rest your case, rest your brain until you can come up with something original. Taxis have always accepted booking from ranks, street, post any communication method, why should that change. Again no-one books a PH, it is unheard of and you cannot dispute that, so who is ME ME ME.
