When I bought a Hackney Plate for £15,000, 11 years ago, my friend who was, and still is on private hire laughed at me and said "you don't own it you know, and they might de regulate, your'e better off like me on private hire"

I went to work when ever I wanted or in most cases needed to, he had to work shifts laid down by the company, if I did not want to go out I did not have to tell anyone, he had to report in, and then face disciplinaries if he does not work when told he has to, over the years he has paid more than £46,000 in radio rent and has nothing, so if they do de regulate next week I have earned as much as him and still spent £31,000 less and if they don't de regulate he will still be spending his radio rent and I can sell the plate for twice the cost, and he still maintains he did the right thing, I coloured my hair last week because they thought I was a dumb blonde, I don't think so.

Have you earned as much?

Have your costs been the same?

Or might he actually take £60 a week more than?

Might he spend a tad less a day on fuel in a well organised PH office.

We will never know?

That's what business is all about, pros and cons, being an Owner does not suit everyone, anyone can be PH but it takes comitment and investment to be Taxi Owner. Even if she did not gain financially she had the satisfaction of being a bit more in control of her business. She rose up out of the swamp and joined the ranks of gods own chariotiers.

Obviously a gamble wich paid off, no doubt a calculated risk lol but what did you take into consideration when you decided to buy the plate and whats the plate worth now?

Well Amish Boy how did they get their shops, where were you when the LA gave out the butcher, baker, etc shops, were they free. Did these people aquire the skill to carry out their trade from some magic potion.
No they paid their way. They learn their trade from those that went before them. Their hands were working, learning, unlike yours which only know grasping and snatching. Do you think all that business is about is starting with money and making more. What about skill, invention, inovation and hard work, yes HARD WORK.

Have you tried hard work Amish Boy perhaps you should. I've seen people doing it but never tried it myself being one of the privileged never had the need. Got my plate for nothing don't yer know and made a jolly good business out of it too.
There is no pot of gold at the end of the rainbow, I know I went there on a radio job years ago; turned out to be a dud; a hoax call, kids messin about ! They get very spitefall when they find out father christmas is just a fat git in a red suit. What made you so bitter and twisted, Amish Boy who dashed your hopes, who peed on your parade. Did you fail to get a girl friend or did your wife leave you because you were an under-acheiver. Unburden accept your short commings then you can get on with your life. The sooner you admit and accept the quicker the healing can begin.

I wouldn't call a cartel hard work Mr TaxiTescoTroll, unless you call badgering councillors until they let you have your own way hard work.

And coming up trumps via the waiting list isn't hard work either, but you do need a bit of patience. Then again, given that it's a lottery, the amount of patience required can vary a bit as well.

The cost would be roughly the same, he needs to take more money than me as he has to pay £90 a week for his radio ,I don't pay anything, anyone knows that Private Hire do more dead miles than hackneys, and in our neck of the woods I don't think PH office and well organised belong in the same sentence. You know I am right, thats why 139 people have looked and no one has presented areasonable argument just the usual bitching and scathing comments even Sussex who usually has something to say on every subject is strangely quiet.

For journeys that end outside the licensed area wouldn't a vehicle with a radio stand a greater chance of obtaining a fare on a return journey, than a vehicle without a radio?

All I see is Hacks driving of the rank with punters and heading back empty. Not sure that means they can get much above 50% paid.

Unless they live in GBC land who probably does 98.5%.
