... I pull up on yellow lines, meter on but stopped, hazards on etc in a licenced Hack with full livery, plate and top sign; and get out of the car to help a passenger with their leg in plaster to get safetly into their house. I admit I did enter the house as was a regular customer and wanted to make sure that they were safetly indoors and seated before I left. When I returned to the cab I had a blinking Parking Ticket I could well be wrong but I always thought that Hacks were allowed to park temporarily on double yellows etc to assist passengers Can't help wondering if I'll get a ticket on the ranknext cos thats got yellow lines as well!

The ticket should say on it how long you were there. In most places a five minute grace is given, if for no other reason than that's the time it takes to sort the ticket out. I would appeal on the basis of helping out a disabled customer. Give the punter's details etc. Then the ticket people have got to decide if they want you ticket money or months of paperwork going through the appeals process.

I'm sure if you go back and look you will see what restrictions applied. There have been cases won on the fact that yellow lines were not the right size and the signposts were too far apart for the general public to be informed of the restrictions. Those cases don't appear every day and the point I'm trying to make is the fact that the restriction will probably be in public view on a lampost and that your waiting time will be governed by those restrictions.
