1. The Liverpool ECHO's anti-taxi campaign It would seem that in recent months the Liverpool ECHO has been carrying out a campaign against Liverpool's licensed taxi trade. What is their aim? To destroy the trade? They have had a field day with the recent stories of Liverpool drivers cherry-picking. Now, before anyone says anything - yes I know there are cherry pickers in Liverpool. Of course there are. There have been for years and there will continue to be. But this sort of practice is going on in every town and city in the UK. There are 1417 plates in Liverpool. I wouldn't like to start making up any figures, but in all honesty I can't see that it is a massive number of drivers causing these problems. Certainly not as many as the ECHO would have you believe. In addition to the articles in the paper, the ECHO has been printing readers' letters that are bringing the trade into massive disrepute. It would seem that, for some unknown reason, the ECHO have a massive problem with taxi drivers. Was the editor once overcharged in a cab or something? I am not saying that the Liverpool taxi trade is 100% perfect or that 100% of drivers are totally honest all of the time, but I do not believe that things are a lot better than the ECHO are making out. Anybody can see that people are just jumping on the bandwagon and looking for any opportunity to complain against a taxi driver. |

Put that together with the article they wrote about Delta, and you would think someone is trying to start a war, and from the feedback I got today, they are succeeding. |

Of course that should say - "I do believe that things are a lot better..." Sorry if that was confusing. |

I suspect the Editor had a bad experience with a Liverpool cab driver and has put the word out to his staff that it's now open season on them.
