So your council set the 'maximum' you can charge for a fare inside your district.

Can the council dictate what you charge the second you drive over the district's border into a neighbouring district?

68 Byelaws for regulating hackney carriages The commissioners may from time to time (subject to the restrictions of this and the special Act) make byelaws for all or any of the purposes following; (that is to say,)

For fixing the rates or fares, as well for time as distance, to be paid for such hackney carriages within the prescribed distance, and for securing the due publication of such fares;

Sorry JD, I am being thick.

So if I am sat 100 yards from the district boundary (inside) and a punter hails me to drive out of the district. Does the council's tariff have to be charged throughout the journey?

If you don't advise the passenger of any extra charge for the journey ending outside the prescribed area then you can only charge them whats on the meter. If you have a policy of charging extra for journeys ending outside the presrcibed distance then it is advisible to inform the passenger what the fare will be or what the terms of the fare will be ie clock and third, or clock and half etc.

Unless of course your bylaws state something entirely specific?

According to my LA if the job ends outside our borough the fare is negociated between the driver and passenger.
