a rival of ours has cabs for hire without plates and no need for badges, how is he doing it?

At a guess he is abusing sec 75 of the 1976 act, but the good news is that if he tries that after 01/01/08 he will end up in jail. :D

Has any justification been proffered?

If it's just the standard private hire service then there isn't really any way out.

If the vehicles dont have plates then one suspects they might not be cabs? lol.

So what you're really saying is that a rival of yours has vehicles for hire, which as far as you know are not licensed by the council? I suppose you wan't to know if they are licensed under psv legislation and if they are, can they carry out an activity which you believe may be incompatible with any license they might hold?

The law has changed, it's just it doesn't come into being till 01/01/08.

my LO says it is a grey area and will remain so...

if you get a 2.5 litre car, you can class your self as a limo, and perform the same service.

too many issues, i guess its a good thing, but i also think that if we had a better unified body rather than corrupt local LOs we would be a lot better off.

Theres no grey area.

and HTF does the size of the engine determine whether or not the vehicles a luxury / executive car?

What he means is that it's too much paper-work. :sad:

Ask him to put into writing why he views the goings on as legal. :wink:

if im quite honest, i was and am a bit jealous i didnt think of it first as now he has created the work so even if he doesnt hire out cars he has now got 30% more work for his waiting list.

there will always be some loophole, just hope i find the next one.
