Fact: There is no hard economic or monetary value in a taxi licence plate.

Fact: No intrinsic value.

Fact: The Licence plate “value” is purely artificial and subject to the vagaries of council policy.

Fact: The monetary "value" of a taxi licence only exists, in so far, as there is a controlled over supply of drivers.

Fact: This is subject to a numerical limit being placed on plates.

Fact: Drivers are turned into a commodity to be traded between owners.

Fact: Drivers are forced to compete with one another for their job security.

Fact: The driver’s casual job status makes him totally dependent on the plate holders for his employment.

Fact: The more drivers, the greater the driver’s dependency is on the owner, and the system of becoming an owner.

Fact: This hikes rentals and plate premiums.

Fact: Anyone who would advocates a system like this does it in the full and certain knowledge that drivers entering the trade will be totally dependent on the existing owners for their livelihood.

Fact: Drivers are controlled and enslave to build little empires and pension funds for owners.

Fact: Plate holders don’t want to operate in a free market economy where the only barrier to becoming an owner is quality controls.

Fact: The owners need to keep drivers in ignorance to keep the scam going.

Don’t be one of them….

Your choice:
If the C.E.C goes to the Interested Parties List (IPL) while claiming there is a demand for 99 licences, apply immediately for a licence. There is no provision in Law for an IPL. You have as much right to a licence plate as anyone on the list.

Fact: Skulls plate will be for sale as soon as he gets the restriction lifted.

Fact: It will be worthless cause if he can get one everyone else could.

Answer: Half-truth. The licence plate is of some real value as it allows the holder to operate a taxi. It is subject to the vagaries of the council.

Answer: False. The "monetary value" of a taxi licence exists only if there is a restriction on the number of licences issued. The supply of drivers is irrelevant.

Answer: True, but this is a fixation of Skull.

Answer: False. This is utter nonsense.

Answer: False. "Casual job status?" Everyone is dependent on others for their job security. From a top executive to a humble employee to a lowly self-employed person.

Answer: False. This is another example of the twisted and flawed logic that is Skull's trademark. He calls it lateral thinking.

Answer: False. I work in the trade whilst he doesn't. Rentals are reasonable apart from a few examples over-quoted by him. Plate premiums reflect earnings capacity and are currently well below, and have never reached, the figure he has gassed on about for the last few years.

Answer: False. This is his sad belief and not that of the majority.

Answer: False. It is well documented that the taxi market is not a free market, there are so many restrictions why single out a numerical restriction?

Answer: False. I am a driver and well aware of what is going on, as are most other drivers.

Answer: Contradictory. He knows full well that the council can and will use the IPL as a factor to assist in determining applications. We all have equal right to a licence but a council can use such lists to help in their deliberations. So feel free to waste your money as he has wasted his and advised others who have wasted theirs. The phrase barrack room lawyer comes to mind.

Graham (JD) has advised on and tried to take credit for the current licences being issued in Edinburgh but really the courts disregarded his submission just as they discarded the council's and the sheriff's.

Fact: The C.E.C has increased the licence application fee to £1205 in an attempt do discourage anyone wishing to apply.

Fact: There is no provision in law for an IPL.

Fact: Trade representatives have already agreed with the council to increase the fleet by the 99 interested parties still remaining on the IPL.

Fact: If you apply before anyone on the list you will have a live application whereas they will only be interested.

Fact: You will be applying when there is a recognised ‘significant unmet demand’ for taxi services. The only criteria on which they can grant licences while having a policy to cap taxi numbers.


We fully expect the C.E.C to suppress any demand information of the forthcoming survey until they have written to those on the IPL, giving them a chance to apply. The number of plates issued will be exactly the number on the IPL.

If you apply just before the survey is complete and a ‘significant unmet demand’ is recognised, they will have to grant your licence, as they will have no information to the contrary. Having an IPL is no indication of demand it is merely a list of people who might be interested.

Timing is everything.

Anyone out there wishing to apply for a plate when demand is recognised, can rest assured, you will get the opportunity, just keep an eye on TDO.

BTW, this maybe your best chance to own a plate without paying 50K + for the privilege.
