I never expect to recieve a tip. That way it feels a lot better when I do get one.
I don't believe that tipping should be automatic. It should be for exceptional service. To tip someone for just doing the job that they are being paid to do is redicules. |

If I get a 10p tip and the punter says sorry it's not much I reply that at the end of the year all the 10ps will pay for my christmas dinner.

I would say that the proportion tipping in St Andrews is a lot less than in London, particularly when the students are here. I'd settle for 40% not tipping

Look at it in context: a tip is money you haven't "earned". It's a gratuity. I don't think we should expect anythign over and above the fare. 10p or £10, the tipper gets the same response from me: " Very kind, thank you very much". The best ones, for me, are the 80 year old ladies who pay with a crumpled fiver and tell me to "take ten pence for a cup of tea dear". Great stuff.

Many of our customers use taxis on a regular basis and are elderly or lower income bracket and do not tip because they cannot afford it or because they see the taxis as their "bus service" so for us it is quite normal for about 25% or less of all customers to actually tip although some days it is higher and also at weekends a greaster proportion tip |

I don't expect a tip, I just want the right money for the fare in the first place. |
