The latest rumour that would suggest the Council having the last word is, the rank in Duncombe Place which is closed at 10pm and drivers have taken no notice and continued to rank there is to become the subject of a closure order and bollards will be erected at either end of the street and it will be completely closed to all traffic between the hours of 10pm and 7am. Before you all scream "they can't do that" perhaps it might have been better to not park there in the first place. |

yes i have heard of this rumour, but you can't go round being a taxi policeman, maybe you have it safe with the Railway Station rank, some of us don't or cant have access or be accepted to the Stn rank, we have to earn a living somehow alot of taxi drivers have this thing about "don't upset the Council" i for one along with others don't give a fook about the Council if they do bollard Duncombe Place, one driver is going to put letters out to St Saviours Place residents, to the effect of, hey look at Duncombe Place residents look what they have succeeded in, you too can beat the taxis hammering past your doors at all hours of the night, the residents of St Saviorgate have been moaning about taxis for years next stop will be Toft Green, the night club area as there are now resident appartments next to the night club so in affect all taxis will be outside the walls of the city, taxi drivers are or seem to be on the scale if not lower in some peoples mind in line with beggars, and they dont want them near their property, it lowers the tone so bollards for Duncombe Place so how much more money is the Council going to spend, all those poles along the rank and signs must have cost near to a thousand quid of tax payers money, now because the Hotel manager of Dene Court Hotel keeps hammering on the Councils door, re taxis after 2200hrs are still working that street, all admitted using Byelaw 9a, "ply for hire in any street after 1900hrs" the rank maybe closed but the street is a public street and its open i would have thought that the Council would have told the Hotel Manager to fook off, but no, that hotel manager of the Best Western has so much power over the Council, they do what he says, funny isn't it, the hotel manager can pick up the phone and complain about youths hanging around the South African war memorial, and what happens is we get about 20 coppers with blue lights turn up to move these kids away, most are doing no harm, just a meeting place, but the police move them on, under what law i don't know you try and ring the police and they say they are to busy closing the road [bollards], lets look at that The Minster, fire risk Dene Court hotel, fire risk Theatre Royal, back door fire risk, large artics come to the back door to remove stage sceneary in the early hours delivery trucks need access to low Petergate to stock shops during the early hours The Minster has coaches pick up people from the Minster shows late on The on street car parking opposite the rank, meters make money accessing Petergate from Lendal to get to the other side of town by police and other motorists it isn't going to happen |

I'm sure national express would be most happy to open up the station for a nice little fee say £2 Million quid
And as for keeping the council happy well if they are anything like our council they shaft taxi drivers at every opportunity so why be helpful ? |

See I can understand why railway companies want a rent from drivers. I can understand why drivers pay that rent. But I can't understand why the railway companies want to restrict the number of permits to keep some drivers out.

I think its more a case that the railway companies want to sell the rights to the taxi rank to the HIGHEST BIDDER Not all drivers want to work for a copmpany just because they have the station rights |

Sussex they have a problem there , in that some clown thinks because he owns the permits he has the god given right to dictate who uses the rank there and how much extra shekels they must pay him for the privilege. After making enquires with national express they have a policy of an open rank so as to keep customers happy, so anyone can rank there, as long as they buy an INDIVIDUAL permit
