what a load of tosh i, and am sure plenty of other taxi and PH drivers will carry on lighting up after 1st of july, what is this country coming to.
what do you think the chances are of gettin caught? about the the same as not wearing a seat belt in the dark i guess and with a paltry "fine" of £50 reduced to £30 if paid within 14 days or what ever the time line is.
fair enough if your carrying passengers, thats a different story.
this law is so stupid a truck driver who spends all week away in there truck on there own cant even smoke. not even on a night out when his truck ceases to be a work place and becomes his home for the night.

Youre right the law is an ass!! people will continue to smoke in their vehicles,the police will look the other way coz they know how stupid this part of the legislation is!!!!!!!!

And those people will still die in their tens of thousands.

I hate smoke, smoking and the fact that it has killed too many people that I would rather it hadn't.

Don't passengers who don't like smoking or the smell of it have the right to be carried in a taxi that does not smell like an ashtray. Get real and think of the people who pay your wages instead of yourself.

They also have the right to be carried in a taxi that does not smell of kebabs and booze. Are you suggesting we should refuse passengers with take away food or who have been for a drink, in case they leave a smell that offends the next passenger?

Those affected by passive smoke were generally in a social setting and could choose whether or not to be there, a consenting adults kind of thing. Therefore the risk are either exaggerated or the people affected weren't too bothered.

Meanwhile, those who have little choice in the matter (such as kids at home or in a car) are affected as before, and indeed since many ex pub smokers are now staying at home it's arguable that the vulnerable are worse affected.

One report said that overall tobacco consumption had increased since the ban, perhaps people staying at home and spending the money they save on more ciggies.

I don't like smoking, but at the end of the day the ban is illiberal and there are hundreds of other things they could turn their attention to before this.

And if you had a pub at your front door then it might focus your mind as well.

Any family who has kids or even not have kids should be able to get in a smoke free clean taxi

Ditto, but i think we have to also consider what the government are going to tax next inorder to make up for what they are now going to lose

mind you they could have had smoking / non smoking cabs with clear signs then the passenger(s) could have a choice whether they wanted a smoke free cab.

Well you may not need to light up in your cab when the ban comes in, you could just stay at home and do it, 3 pubs that where very popular have closed this week in my town due to the ban, they have even put posters in there windows to advertise the fact, and the town has been dead all week.

I suppose that's the issue, dead pubs and towns, or dead folks.

Well dead people dont get cabs, so I'd personally have them alive, smoking, spending money on nights out and taxis home.

Grandad my car doesnt smell like an ash tray, In 3 and a half years of doing this job i have had only 1 complaint about the smell of smoke in my PH car, by three moaning women, they were very close to being ejected from my car. the next ones wont be so lucky, they will be OUT.
What about the smell i have to endure off smelly customers ie old people smelling of wee, garlic, stale beer and yes stale smoke.
