Post subject:  Public hire insurance
Starting as a hackney driver in new year but also wish to use the cab for airport transfers and maybe some local trade.... My question is do i need public hire and private hire insurance to do this? Also can i pick up any private bookings that call outside my licence area? Silly questions maybe but am new to the game so any advice would help. :)

If your going to be licenced as a hackney, and not private hire, you will only need public hire insurance, if someone phones you from outside your area your more than welcome to go and get them. and you can stop and pick up any punter that waves you down inside your area, a private hire cannot and must be pre-booked only.

is it the same for advertising also?? can i advertise my services in other areas and still pick passengers up through bookings. I know i can't pick up fares on the street in other areas if i drop a passenger off there.

You can advertise your wares anywhere you want i.e. an internet site is going to reach more than just your manor.
