Something that has crept in down here over a period of time, but is getting worse are people/hoods/yobs running out into the road and standing in the road with arms outstretched like the Angel of the north, forcibly stopping cabs. Last night having just come out of a single lane of traffic, I spotted a group of lads 5/6 of them generally misbehaving so I deliberately put myself in the outside lane of three lanes away from them. I am now travelling in lane three at 30 mph ish, one of the lads runs out into the road immediately in front of my cab forcing me to slow down. He is now walking towards me with one arm outstretched as one would do to stop someone, and as pious as it may seem I had already profiled them and as such there was no way that I was going to pick them up. What these guys do is surround the vehicle concerned and basically try to force the cab driver to take them to where ever, but will give his car a good kicking if he refuses. I slowed down just enough to kid him I was going to stop, and then sped on as quickly as possible, but not quick enough to stop him slamming my wing mirror into the body work ( lucky no damage.) I have also witnessed yobs standing in front of a cab, hand on bonnet refusing to let a cab go. The police have come along and told them to move, but that is all that has been done and things are now getting much worse. The problem is going to escalate because some driver "it could be me" trying to get away from these horrors could end up running one over - guess who is trouble then from some ones little angel. Do you guys get the same problem in your neck of the woods. |

From experience, as you say it is a accident or assault waiting to happen, all these incidents must be reported to the police, if the trade does not report them than obviously the police can claim they do not occur, drivers should keep a incident book in the vehicle and note down times and dates and what happened, the more incidents that are reported the better, if an incident occurs where a driver knocks someone down then it least the reports can become part of his Defence. |

When I was in Cape Town on holiday there was a simular thing happening. One guy was driving in a 4x4 and a guy was lying in the road so the 4x4 driver went "Off Road" to go round him through some bushes and killled 2 guys that were hiding in them waiting for him to stop!

Is this not another reason for all of us to get CCTV. And a system that points out as well.

And a system that points out as well. Inwards and outwards thats what we need but the DPA has a few sticking points about cameras recording outwards, mostly regarding rotating cameras. Maybe we can get around them? Regards JD |

I can see where your coming from with this comment and personally i whole heartedly agree, Kill the little scumbags however i dont think a judge would see it that way, but then said judge doesn't have to drive the cab/taxi does he/she ?? |

Regards JD Might be worth talking to First Bus, they now have camera's fitted to almost all buses inside and out. An item on Granada News a while ago showed an interview with a First spokesman who said it was now saving a fortune in false insurance claims |
