Taxi Driver Online

Not been on here long, but what i have read makes me think a few of you are a bit childish, ie hackney drivers thinking they are better than private hire drivers cant see there being much diiference both getting paid for taking customers from a to b for a fare, grow up children.

Rightly or wrongly forum like this have a lot of tongue in cheek posts on them. They are not to be taken as seriously as some may think. Drivers, either PH or HC have there own opinions, which they will defend no matter what.

No matter how many posts I do, I don't for a second believe anyone with a £40,000 plate premium is going to say that old Sussex is spot on and do away with it.

I also know that nothing will change my view on quotas.

I think there are a few taxi drivers that think they are better than their PH counterparts, and there are a few PH drivers that think they are better than the taxi boys.

Thankfully they are all wrong.

Sorry, but this post is obviously from a PH Driver trying to tell us that he is the same as a Hackney Driver.
In some licensing areas, yes, in others NO.
The tests are different to start with.
The test for a Hackney driver being much tougher than a PH driver.
Hackney drivers are far safer .
Far more knowledgeable.
Older and therefore naturally more mature !
A lot of PH drivers are failed racing drivers ...........
I am sure sussex wont agree but who cares.

We have the same standrad for both taxi and PHV.
Also what about the dual licensed arreas?
But drivers are as safe as the CRB check that comes back. Not the car that they drive.

I am very new to the job, p/h, about 5 weeks.

I really don't understand why there is animosity or rivalry between P/H and H/C. I have a couple of mates that drive H/C and the only problem they seem to have is with the person that owns the firm that I drive for. I actually picked up a H/C driver and his wife the other day from a country pub out in the wilds and after following a badger for half a mile, we got lost, (my excuse, pitch black and country lanes) a great laugh especially when the guys wife found us the right way to go.
We all seem to be doing a very similar job in slightly different ways.
It would be nice to give a nod to all drivers and not just those from your own firm.

A purpose built LTI Cab has no competition from anythig else on the road.
I have seen one crushed between two trucks and both the passenger and driver walked out of it.
Had it been any other vehicle they would both be dead.
I have driven on both so I know the difference.
The only gripe I have with PH is that they steal our work.

Well you were taliking about the difference between hc and ph drivers in terms of safety. I said that it all depends on the CRB check. The fact that a LTI got squashed and the people survived had nothing to do with the saftey of the driver.
It could have been his fought the accident.
As for the saftey of a LTI well they may be good, but then so would a Chieften tank be. But i bet you most customers would prefer a nice Merc to a box on wheels.
As does most of London.
As for PH joining the taxi game. Well you make it sound so very welcoming for them.

I think he is trying to wind up the PH lads.
Ask any driver of a LTI in the counctry if they would rather drive a £30,000 Merc or a £30,000 TX, then the number choosing the TX could fit into one of the things.
He also fails to see that more and more councils have dual licensing. So how can those lads be safe or not safe when they have the same license.
As a ex PH driver now a taxi driver idiots like that make me weep.

Exactly my point...........The licenses are NOT the same in all areas.
In ''my'' area the tests and licenses are different.
As for calling me an ''idiot'' just loses you the argument.
Stick to the subject and stop trying to insult people who disagree with you but then perhaps we must make allowances for the likes of you.
You know the licence you applied for and obtained now stay within your remit.
A solicitor is not a barrister and a barrister is not a judge!
As for London, they have a choice if they wish to ride in a Merc but you try and get a Hackney in London ! Which perhaps explains why people ride in minicabs. i.e. a shortage of hackneys.
Another thing I have noticed is that the ''customer'' is different in PH and Hackney i.e. the people who use them are different except perhaps on the weekend .(But this will change from next year when licensing hours are removed next year)
