Post subject:  T&GWU dont kid yourselves
T & GWU are a bunch of over paid tossers, they have screwed up the road haulage industry, now they want to screw up the taxi industry they havent a clue, they take money off you and give you sod all back for it, they havnt the power any more, you can shove your unions up your arse if you think they will fight your corner, you are living in a dream world.

You are well entitled to your opinion, the unions do have many faults I have criticised them myself, but they have secured the quality of life a working man has today.

it is far from true that they buggered up the Haulage industry, there were many whos had an hand in that, not least successive governments of both colours.

I do wish though that union members would listen to each other, I watch fellow brothers on here go into pitfalls day after day, but they still take leeps in the dark.

My negative views of the T&G are well known, but I feel it's not the union that's the problem, it's the leadership of the cab section.

You have the London drivers telling the rest of us that de-limitation is such a bad thing, all the time they work in a de-limit area. Perhaps they should pay £50,000 for their plates, or be forced to work when someone else says they should.

Then you have the bus man, who no-doubt is a nice enough chap, but knows f*** all about this trade, and relies on out-dated and flawed info to back up his out-dated and flawed views.

However there are other unions, Amicus did well for the lads fighting the DSA tests, and the GMB seem to be doing well in London for the PH lads.

Maybe the T&G should offer a swap, and get someone in that the whole trade could respect, and one that doesn't treat one part of our trade as something that's stuck to the bottom of his shoe. :sad:

As a trade union representative with the T&G I take exeption to some of the statements made but sympathise with the general feeling behind arguments about leadership and actual Union backup.

The problems stem from the thought that applications should always be successful and that if it becomes impossible to continue its because not enough has been done.

As everyone knows we have just made an application to restrict the number of HC our council licenses. I can tell you that I have spent a minimum of 25 hours a week putting together this application without recieving, or wanting to recieve, a single penny piece.

I do agree that the T&G could do more, indeed they should.

The main problem stems from CTN being nationally distributed but focusing on London issues, sections and articles are printed from accross the country but in such small ammounts they can appear hidden.

I must point out that the branch I represent is made up of both HC and PH drivers and we in no way consider either side to be better than the other, indeed anyone who even implied such a thing would be asked to leave.

Lastly I would just like to say that any group, association or union are only as good as those who choose to join and be actively involved in motions passed by the majority. To often people point to such groups and complain however when the same people complain they take offence when their comments are ignored, or argued against.

Everbody to their own, all being as 1 under 1 banner can only be good for the trade HC or PH T&G, RMT whatever you like. Strong unions can only make for a good trade.
