the new wavs are now recieving their long awaited letters giving them acess to taxicard customers, there are also some figures regarding a survey the council done among the taxicard holders, out of 1527 holders only 212 require to travel in their wheelchair, 1026 are non wheelchair users, this is bad news for the new wavs as the council are not allowing us to pick up the non wheelchair users and are calling the taxicards(new wheelchair taxicards)this of course means that the extra taxicard journeys financed by taking away the 1500 a year grant for new wavs will be mostly benefited by 203020 who will have acess to the 1026 rather than the 212 the 140 odd new wavs will have, its a bit ironic when you consider the new wavs have invested betewwn 10000-35000 for new vehicles to help the disabled while 203020 are fighting to convert their fleet to saloons , |

Are the council saying that it's un-safe for non-WAV customers to travel in WAVs? Or is this purely a commercial decision? Funny place that Dundee, funny place.

the decision to let 203020 run the taxicards was made before the new wavs were even thought about the reason given was it would be easier if one company handled them ... |

The taxi card scheme, was put out to tender, the tender spec was for the smart card scheme, but the wheelchair customers were still allowed to use the original very few operators that had wheelchair accessible and were running these for the past few years. Everyone with a bit of savvy, new that there was only a small minority of wheelchair work avaliable. The newer guys only put these WAVS on to get their own plates, and if they had done their homework they would have known they would not make money with the wheelchair side of the business. In fact if you do not run your business properly doing the WAV work, you WILL actually lose money. However any one in the position of being a driver, then giving the opportunity,of running their own cab for £10-£12,000,albeit a Fiat,if going for the lower end of the Wav vehicle market, have made this decision. However the next two two three years will be tough and a few new and old guys will give up,but there will have to be a ceiling put onto the ammount of cabs in Dundee,as the ammount on now cannot be sustained. Only way out is for all vehicles to be Wavs, from say 2006,and all operators, working on an evenfooting. Also do not think that 203020 is going away,I for one think that if at all, they will have something up their sleeve, and to us all it will make our earnings less. Ronnie the Realist
