led to believe Halcrow are doing rank surveys in York, never seen them but drivers say its on going, what is a legal way of doing surveys

it seems that they are picking and choosing where and when they come out to survey, not doing full coverage of hours

they are even surveying the private rank at the railway station, as one driver spoke to an official, and found it was 52 minutes wait for a job at the stn that went down on the list, how on earth they can survey this rank as the entry is limited to permit holders only

it seems as if they are only counting the first cab, no tally taken on total cabs, as they did before

we also have form to fill in from de Council, one of the questions ask hour many hours do you work typical week, please input hours worked, telephone bookings, flaggers % etc etc, should this really be listed and filled in

i also think this survey form has gone out to the public for their thoughts, ie Fares, to high or to low, do drivers receive sufficient training, do you consider their to be sufficient hackney taxis, asking when more hackney taxis are required, the list goes on

many years ago when a Halcrow survey was done, the taxi organisation at the time asked for a copy, oh yes they sent one but it was in Greek so it had to be coverted to English, that may not happen again, but i have heard that the results will be sent to one of TDO's ex members who left this site to be de scrambled

the one an only, the ex accountant, ex mathmatician, the ex engineer and lately the ex taxi driver, the one and only Mr Gerald Grisdale [The Old Man of York] who has since retired to the beaches of sunny Scarbourgh [Cod head country]

Lets see what he comes up with when he digests the report

Most recent SUD surveys have been done via cameras at different locations and at different times.

They should also make note of illegal PH plying.

You are right Gerald did decipher the results, as he was and still is the best qualified in our area to do so,he came up with some very interesting facts which he put in the report back to the select transport committee on the 2003 OFT report.I remain convinced that Gerald went a long way towards the decision that the Government reached which was to keep the decision on de limitaion with all local authorities, as i am praising someone on here I expect the usual drivel from the the usual brain dead idiots who peruse this site, but facts are facts, over and out.

There is no legal way of doing surveys. It is up to each individual authority to determine whether they are satisfied there is no unmet demand and then having the evidence at hand to convince a judge that the evidence supports the presumption there is no unmet demand.

In order to remove numbers control a council doesn't need a survey so if York are having a survey then one assumes it is to protect its policy of quantity controls.
