National Express have raised the price of a station permit by 50% up to £737 75p. which equates to £650 plus V.A.T. plus they are only offering this to Station taxis as their managing agents for one year then the rank goes out to tender. the new leadrer at the Station has rejected this offer and told them he wants 3 years and will only agree to an increase from last year of 45 plus inflation. They meet again next week. |

I think they will get the money if station taxis are worried about losing their position. If not then they wont, cos that's a lot of money. Maybe someone should complain to the OFT, as this is clearly a breach of a dominant position IMO. |

so it wasn't far off the £1000 they wanted lets take a closer look at the situation National Express have only just started, taxis would be the last thing they would be trying to work out, so lets just take a stab in the back and go for a price this year no doubt the accountants and solicitors of that company will be sitting down to work out a better plan during the course of the year ie. how much can we screw these high earning taxi drivers for, remember it was qouted not long ago the revenue they thought taxi drivers was taking just from York stn was x millions of pounds due to the amount of rail travellers departing York so the millionare taxi driver who was the leader who ran the Stn Taxis as gone as he??? Station Taxis lease that Portico office building right on the rank, it was tried by GNER to get rid of Stn Taxis a few years ago, but it was then found out that they had a very very long lease on that property so they wont be budging the word going round is............... NO, non other than a Hackney cab can work at the Stn on the railway taxi rank, so York stn taxis will get the contract every time require answer, yes or no?? if lets say a firm from say Leeds [or Berwick] got the contract for the York Stn.... would they have to be licenced by York????? could they just have their own area plates??? would they have to do a city of York knowledge test???? could PH sit on the railway rank, its not a council rank??? and just take bookings??? require answer for all above well who knows in a years time those that work the railway rank could be on the down to earth ranks even being 149th car, |

Wouldn't this be a golden opportunity for all you York drivers who don't work the station yet would like to under a different set up, to get together and discuss the opportunities that have arisen? If ever there was an opportunity to snatch this contract out of the hands of the current contract holder then this is surely it. Are there enough drivers in York who would like the have a stake in the permit franchise to form an organisation or company and tender a bid. If so then I would immediately write a letter to National Express explaining that your new organisation is ready to meet the current permit demands in full, providing the normal permit contract includes an undertaking that all account work will be serviced by the company holding the permit franchise. Advise them you are aware that the current permit contractor is trying to negotiate a new three year conditional contract but you suggest that rather than enter into such an agreement with the incumbent, National Express should immediately put the contract out to tender in order that it can obtain the right price and best service for its product? If no one in York is interested then so be it. Regards JD |

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1SmgLtg1 ... re=related If it can't be done then it can't be done, I don't know how York Taxi drivers feel about being excluded from the station taxi rank? An opportunity to try for the permit contract has presented itself providing there are enough of them to grasp the nettle. I seem to recall in previous discussions that one or two people complained about being excluded from York station, perhaps now is the time to sound out those who want to work there, but can't? National Express, GNER, or going even further back to BR East Coast have never asked us for a penny down at the London end of the line. I guess having the station blockaded for a week would'nt do there customer relations any good. |

Thursday i am led to believe never mind Hacks complaining about curtains in PH vehicles, it could be just that for Hacks from the Stn rank, curtains no way is National Express going to accept 4% rise on permits so 1st May all permit holders [ex] will be out on the town ranks someone has fore warned the Council, about what are they going to do with an extra 120 odd cabs polluting town centre, seeing they wont be going into the Stn i dont think the train company is worried cos PH, Fleetways and Streamline already do Stn contract work |
