I’m thinking about buying a private plate. I have already looked at the usual private reg sites. I've also seen the one mentioned below (28th april post), but G13 CAB is pretty pricey. I know these things are difficult to value - but what is other peoples experience of purchasing "CAB" or "TAXI" type plates ? Is there a chance of a good increase in value over time ? |

These things are worth as much as someone is prepared to pay for it. Times and tastes change and values will follow. My advice: Buy one if you want it and are happy with the price. You may be able to claim it for tax purposes. There are no guarantees on value so it's a gamble. If you are not prepared to lose money, don't do it. |

Owned TAX 112S for a few years paid 275.00 for it sold it for double also had HC 51 CAB and my hac plate was 51, my advice would be to look at DVLA website and make up your own a lot cheaper than the agencies |

It would be an awful lot cheaper to change your name by deed poll to your present number plate. I was, for a number of years CPL 593A, and changed it again in 1996 to J269 EGG. |

I have L6 SOV, L7 SOV, L8 SOV, L9 SOV and L11 SOV. Our business name is Sovereign. I paid £250 each from the DVLA but I would not expect to make a profit when selling. |

Saw a guy called Des on a TV quiz show recently, said he wanted a personalised plate but the Des ones were to expensive so he got a Dez one instead..... ......and changed his name by deed poll to Dez

I got two plates for my Mercs on airport work WE02FLY and WE04FLY for the standard £250 from DVLA. When you change vehicles it just costs £80 for the change (plus the cost of a set of number plates to put on the old vehicle, new number is issued free by DVLA) |

There are a couple of local cabbies with personalised plates both purchased from the DVLA buying from a dealer you will pay top price and are unlikely to make money the dvla ones are a standard price and so the right ones will go up in value |
