in a conversation with the LA bod, well, boddess actually, about older "speciality" cars (exec and/or wedding hire) she said something about "the seven day rule".............

any ideas?

Quote:
Special events is a private hire licence but which has certain exemptions in return for a higher cost and more frequent testing by our garages. It has been formulated to cover vehicles formerly run under the 7 day contract exemption such as limousines, which cannot fit standard private hire criteria.

There is no age limit, and hi-vis plates are replaced by discrete gold plates,. However we expect vehicles to be immaculate and of superior quality or character eg. leather interiors, prestige makes, vintage. It is extremely important that SE vehicles are shown to an officer before purchase as several have been refused in the past for not meeting the criteria.

Hope this helps

The seven-day rule was a loophole by which if a hire and reward contract lasted 7 days or more it could be carried out with an unlicensed vehicle.

This has now been well and truly done away with.

She is saying that the council have taken a more flexible approach to PH licensing. It would seem that vehicles not previously licensed will now be.

Aren't weddings and funerals still exempt?

Cars used exclusively for weddings and funerals are still exempt I believe.

In answer to the question what's happening with Pink Ladies in Warrington well I don't know but I can tell you the local forum has just locked all the threads on the subject that have run for over a year because court proceedings are imminent.
