Have any councils agreed a fuel levy in light of the current situation. I know Sheffield have but was wondering who else and how much as we in York are going to ask the council for 50p levy

Blackpool and Plymouth, and Lincoln is in the process of introducing a fuel surcharge.

Mind you, now that Gordon Brown has had a word with the Saudi's the price will plummet.

In Newcastle,we will probably end up with an increase of somewhere between 5% and 7.5% i think due to the fuel .
At the meeting to discuss tarrifs,1 particular licensing officer,I wont name him and show him up as an idiot....if he reads this,he will know who i refer to....his suggestion was to allow us to add 50p,to all metered fares,so if my meter read say....£16.40,for an airport job,i would charge my passengers £16.90,...50p for fuel.
The council would give us a ..sticker..to put on the dash to alert passengers to this extra charge.
Some of the shall we say`human waste` we pick up would be more likely to put the 50p where we dont want it rather than pay that.
After 25 yrs driving,I was also under the impression that to charge more than the metered fare was actually illegal....things like extras and tunnel/ferry or car park charges apart.
Needless to say we told him that he would never make another script writer for Python.

It's the council's set tariff you can't charge more than, not what's on your meter.

So you can add any extras to what's on your meter as long as the tariff sheet allows that extra.
