Post subject:  REAR NEARSIDE PASSENGER DOOR WON'T LOCK ( METROCAB )
Hi all, I have another question for you. I discovered today that the passenger rear nearside door will not lock.

Would this be the lock itself or something to do with the central looking.

any help and advice please. Thank you

Central locking can be a problem. Does it lock manually? (you just push in the door lever)

Gusmac, is that the lever in side or outside, i tried pushing the lever inside
but it made no difference . I only noticed it when i was driving along and the light came on the dash, to say the door was not shut properly, it had opened about an inch, so i closed it and the light went out.

It was not till i got home, that i found it would not lock, i kept locking and unlocking it, but it would not lock.

As it came open a bit while i was driving, makes me wonder if it is a weak lock.

It's the handle on the inside, the one for opening the door. Both of mine eventually stopped working with the central locking but worked manually. If the handle doesn't push in then the lock mechanism is probably nackered - Taxi doors take a lot of abuse.
The locking mechanism is a ford I think, can't remember which model it's from though. Take it off and see if your ford dealer can match the part number for you or try a google search for the number. If you know what else uses the same lock, you can get one cheaper from a scrappy.

Thanks gusmac, i think as you say the lock mechanism is knackered.
as i said when i was driving along the door opened slightly,so this would seem that the lock is not catching properly.

I tried pushing the handle in but nothing happened

Hi, yes i can hear the central locking working, it locks all the other doors,
but will not lock the rear nearside passenger one.

I think it maybe the lock it's self as the door opened a bit while i was driving.
only noticed it when the light on the dash came on.

remove door handle/window winder (with window up), remove door card and bend/squint/squirm...graze your arm, cut your hand and get to it

spray with wd40 before attempting removal...

Window winder. :shock:

It's a back door on a metro, it's electric. :wink:

Make sure the plugs on the end of the wiring which go into the door and door pillar and clean and tight too.

Woody, I believe the locking mechanism is from a granada on those but can't be sure.

I am going to take the door panel off today, and see if there is anything loose
or disconnected. I phoned JV BRIGHT taxi spares, to see how much a new lock was, they said there are loads of different ones fitted to METROCABS,

they said they will need the number of it and may have to order one,
they have quoted £54 plus vat.

Hopefully i may not need one, it may be something simple, like something unplugged i hope.

but it does sound like the lock itself as it opened slightly, while i was driving.

I took my cab to PICKFORD LANE TAXI'S in bexleyheath kent today, they removed the door panel, to see what the problem was with the locking.

They said the solenoid for the central locking had packed up, they are ordering one for me and will be fitting it tomorrow.

Woody that doesn't explain why it opened while you were driving and also doesn't explain why it won't lock manually. There must be something else as well (they may have fixed it when they had the panel off).

Gusmac, i thought the same thing, but if the solenoid was not working,
would that not affect the doors automatically locking when the cab is moving?

maybe once they have fitted the solenoid, they will realize it's the lock as well

The auto locking is a separate system to the central locking. As you don't need it, it might be an idea to pull the fuses for it - the constant clicking will drive you nuts!
