| Post subject: | Mercedes Eurocab CD111/115; Advice Please |
I am thinking of getting a Mercedes Eurocab CD111 or CD115 triptronic, not the KPM London spec, but the one for the provinces; ex Bernard Mansell or Cab Direct. Does anyone on this forum own or drive one? What mpg do you get? Any problems? Best supplier? etc. Any advice would be appreciated. |

For me, the first one always the Merc dealer. After that you can go anywhere since the Block Exemption Law/Rules came in, as long as the garage uses genuine parts & (I believe) it has to be VAT registered. |

one of the drivers in Sefton had one smashed it up on the motorway earlier this year, he now has one of the new E- 7s he likes that a lot better |

anything complicated on a stop/start vehicle is bad news, mercs manuals arent hugely great but the sprintershift was even less so firstly lets look at earthmovers, lift trucks, loading shovels, all automatic transmission, all pushing and shoving stopping and starting, a lot more complicated than road vehicles, having worked in the industry it was very rare a transmission breakdown occurred come to think about it all heavy road trucks now on the road are now automatic, or nearly now onto Mertc transmissions, supposed to be of the best, used by Kia, Ssangyong Merc and most likely to others through a licence there ae not many faults to the actual transmission itself inside a Mercedes transmission sealed from the transmission oil is what there is called a "electronic plate" which inturn is wired through the vehicle computers brain if anything goes wrong usually the computer sets the auto box to "get me to service depot" this allows you to drive on a low speed in 2nd gear only and revs are reduced the main reason the electronic plate plays up in a Mer transmission is that its got oil on the plate, due to the seal, that holds oil off the tube which houses the wiring to the plate and up to the solenoinds in the box main dealers usually replace this item along with a new tube seal and new oil, cost of plate around 130 quid plus oil and some labour around 300 quid total but usually its nothing wrong with the plate and cleaning with brake cleaner gets the oil off, its the oil seal that leaks to the plate that causes the problems, but its rare that it goes, usually bad fitting by the fitter there is nothing moving in a auto box except the planet and sun gears, multi clutch packs, the right gear held by solenoids, there isnt much more tiptronic, nothing is really moving inside that trans box manualy it all done by electronics switching servo solenoids anyway you dont need tiptronic, just use normal auto and set the mode switch into s or w mode, s mode gets you away fast, w mode lets you set off in 2nd the merc autobox will find a driving style that you use and adapts to that, plus you can reset the memory by engine off, igntion switch on and holding down accelerator for so many seconds, but why the heck, why bother, your still doing the same job |

I've driven autos for over 30 years; never liked the mixing stick, feels like making a cake. If E7 did an auto I still wouldn't buy one, because 'La boîte de vitesse automatique' are cucking frap! |

That's not what I have been told. Since Block Exemption in 2003 (I think), I believe it is illegal for a manufacturer to insist on that. An altrenative garage can do the work, but must follow strict procedures & use OE parts. |
