As fuel is so expensive right now, lets see what taxis are most economical. Please list by; MAKE -USERNAME - MODEL/YEAR - FUEL TYPE - AREA WORKED - MPG for example; ezetobebad - Metrocab/1988 - LPG - LONDON CENTRAL - 13 MPG. Thanks eze |

TX4 VM Euro 4, depends on the diesel and driving style but usually around 29-30mpg. Addition of some Millers Diesel Power Plus Sport 4 = 2 tonne of fun. Has anyone tried using only shell V power or BP ultimate to run them and has it made any significant improvements to MPG or running? |

![]() Great response , If it is busy then fair play, but im my experience it is just not busy enough 'out there' to warrant not taking vehicle & fuel running costs into a costing equation. |

That's life, a bit like the last recession in the early nineties, you just have to put up with it whilst it lasts, and being a night man I survived the last one just fine as hopefully I will ride this one out. For the school holidays, I think it's just fine out there at the moment. I believe the alternative would save you about £2 a day in fuel. That's an average tip in my books, so I'll stick with my currrent choice plus the Powerpill additive. |

I think you'll find that's the only Taxi fleet in Europe that can boast that.

![]() They were completed on June the 1st. There's no more cabs to be converted, unless you consider the F reg Sierra Minicab Estate I was behind last Friday night.
There's nothing left to scrap, the low emissions zone is still in force. |

Your the first person I've heard say they get more than 27 mpg out of a manual TX4. Would I be right in saying the norm is 27 and you are rather unique? Regards JD |

Yes that is correct, I have averaged out the mpg over the last three shifts and it works out at just over 29 mpg, 29.48 mpg to be precise. One shift was 28.81 then 27.28 and the other was 32.36, the 32.36 figure was obtained after I filled up with Shell V power and a dose of Millers for good measure. Am I rather unique? Yes, I believe I probably am, I certainly hope so.

That's an average tip in my books, so I'll stick with my currrent choice plus the Powerpill additive. Maybe for you 'that's life' but with the TX4 reportedly doing just 16.5 mpg (when used in central London) then I want to know for sure the fuel return of any vehicle that may be considering to purchase prior to splashing out £35k large. We now have the Vito taxi available & if that does 32 mpg in London then hey....my fuel bill will be half. In 2009 then Metrocab in partnership with Fraser Nash will be releasing an electric hybrid taxi, in 2010 Lti may be releasing their own electric powered taxi. So lets look at fuel economy for 3 London approved taxis (figures quoted are aprox & for Central London driving conditions only): Tx4 - uses 6 gallons to cover 100 miles - cost £35.34 Fairway - uses 4.5 gallons to cover 100 miles - cost £26.50 Metrocab (not TTT) uses 4 gallons to cover 100 miles - cost £23.56 I suggest that putting up with a recession is one thing but fuel economy figures are a different kettle of fish & need to be monitored & thus decisions can be made prior to a purchase. So the Metrocab will save aprox £12 a day on fuel, or £60 a week or £3k a year. If you want to give yer money to the taxman then fine but i would rather be a bit more frugal with my expense account. Nothing personal intended to anyone here, but I am not really interested in 'if it is busy or not on the streets' this thread is about fuel economy , I am sure we can talk about earings & average tips in another post should you care to start a thread. thanks eze |
