Do you think that a licensing officer could deem an active member of the BNP to be unfit to hold a taxi license due to the fact that many customers are likely to come from ethnic backgrounds? |

I reckon the guy from the BNP has the same rights as anyone else from any other Political party. The licensing Officer has no right to play god or get involved in the political aspirations of others. Who the Hell does he think he Is!!! |

anyway, whats a drivers political views/standpoint got to do with him driving a bloody cab? good point. I bet its more often reversed this kind of Issue with People from certain Ethnic and religious backgrounds who are often less than tolerant to our western ways....and they get licences no problem. |

We recently had a situation here whereby 2 drivers had their licenses withdrawn for allegedly playing music with a racist theme. They got them back on appeal but still got a 2 week suspension and told to go on a course. This all came from a member of the public making a complaint to the council. Nothing was ever proven at all. |

I dont think I'd want my kids in a cab where the driver was playing that type of music....but then again I dont think the cab driver would want to listen to my kids music. there was a case like what you mention last year....the NPHA represented I think....it was in the papers and is somewhere on this site. If he is a 'fit and proper person' then he is entitled to a licence. If subsequent behaviour breaches requirements, he should be dealt with accordingly. As far as I am aware, membership of bona fide political parties is not yet an offence in this country, however offensive one may find the policies of certain parties. |

If its the Melton case then I understand Bryan Roland brokered that deal. It was well documented on TDO but a person can't be refused a license just because his political views are at variance with others. Regards JD |

again, whats "racist music"?.... i bet the jocks and irish have loads of anti-english music, do we care? well, yes, we do, cos our bloody goalposts never came beck either! what makes me larf is that between many "ethnic" sections, they hate each other, caste/tribe vs caste/tribe or muslims vs sikhs, etc, etc, but that rarely gets mentioned |

He's entitled to his opinions, regardless of what they may be. He would however be well advised to keep those opinions to himself while he is working.

The drivers concerned told me that the music that was playing at the time was something to do with music that is played before every Leicester City home game. The woman that complained was not even going in a cab she was just passing at took offense. |
