You can text Heathrow Gatwick and the other BAA airports on 8222.

Text the airport code and the flight number ("Lhr BA123") and a text is returned with the flight details ("Flight BA123 scheduled 1036 terminal 3 on final approach")

It's ideal if your enroute to meet a flight. You have to register and a text costs 50p (add 50p onto the car parking charge)

There is also a site called Flight Stats http://www.flightstats.com that you can track any inbound flight with

teletext is ok but the internet services are poor especially the new Heathrow site the best site I know is an american internet site

http://www.flightstats.com/go/Home/home.do

I have found flights on there that the airport didn't have listed ! ( well until 10 mins before landing)

very useful website

One thing though with flight stats it is dependant on airlines sharing the info so if your meeting a ryanair flight it doesn't usually have up to the minute stats but is quite good on most airlines

I usually check the airport that the flight is leaving from to see if there are any delays as well.

Ditto. On flight stats or many of the airlines, you can get confirmation of take-off time well before any info comes through on BAA sites.

Although it can take between 75 and 90 minutes from here, I can generally time my arrival fairly accurately. Then a quick cuppa in McD's before going into the terminal. Normally manage to make a profit on the parking charge!!
