if she needs to be rehoused then so be it, but £12k a month!!!
As for Noel Gallagher whining about the UK, he's in a fortunate position financially to pretty much go live anywhere he chooses around the World or choose the best area in London if he wishes to remain, i would say that's something to be thankful for. Never did like Oasis anyhow

£12,000 a month council housing By Alex Hayes AN Afghani mother-of-seven is living in a seven-bedroomed mansion in a leafy Acton street at the cost of more than £12,000 a month to taxpayers. The revelation has sparked outrage among local politicians and taxpayers’ groups. Unemployed Toorpakai Saindi, who came to the UK seven years ago, was rehoused in the £1.2m property in a leafy street in central Acton, with her four sons and three daughters after being made homeless in July. However, Ealing Council agreed to house the family there at a cost of £12,458 a month which, according to one local estate agent, is more than three times the amount a private tenant could expect to pay in the current financial climate. Landlord Ajit Panesar was able to check the maximum amount he was able to charge with the Government, under the terms of the Local Housing Allowance which was changed in April, before agreeing the price with council officers. Under the scheme, Acton is lumped in the same charging bracket as posh Westminster. Councillor Will Brooks, who is in charge of housing in Ealing, said: “The sums of money involved in this case will offend people's feelings of 'fair play', especially as so many are having difficulties paying bills at the moment. “What will surprise and anger people is that these rent levels are published so landlords are fully aware of the maximum levels that can be paid. Where there are very few seven-bedroom properties, landlords will obviously seek the absolute maximum as set down. “This clearly puts the council, the Government and taxpayers at a significant disadvantage.” He said the cash comes from a central government fund, not directly from local council taxpayers. However, Councillor Julian Bell, the leader of the Labour group in Ealing, said the amount being payed was “outrageous”, and blamed the council for failing to find a cheaper alternative. He said: “I don’t understand how they can agree to pay so much above the market value. People out there are desperately trying to pay the bills and the council has gone to sleep and is signing blank cheques. “We see so many people living in crowded conditions who have three kids and are living in two bedroomed flats and we are wasting money like this. “They can’t absolve themselves of their responsibility to use taxpayers’ money wisely. It seems to me they are trying to blame the Government for their own incompetence.” According to the council, government guidelines say the family had to be housed in a seven-bedroom house because the children are aged between eight and 22. However, Mark Wallace, a spokesman for pressure group the Taxpayers Alliance, said the case highlights the flaws in the current welfare system. He said: “I think a lot of people were shocked to find out this was even possible. I’m quite dissapointed the people who run our welfare system think this is an efficient way to use our money. “This clearly says to landlords ‘charge as much as you like and the taxpayer will foot the bill’.” |
