Hi All The area I operate in has pretty poor night life. Therefore during the evenings we do get jobs into the next town, which happens to operate under a different council. Therefore I am not licensed to pick up jobs within this town. That is obviously unless it has been pre-booked - either privately or for the taxi firm I work for. Anyway sometimes when I drop someone off into this next town, I am approached with people wanting a taxi back to my town. I obviously decline and say I am not licensed to work in this town etc etc. This usually works ok - however a couple of days ago it was one of my companies regular customers and it was raining quite hard. To cut a long story short he was not happy that I did not pick him up and returned empty and has stated he will not use us agan. We use the conventional 2-Way Radio - in future is it possible that for a similar incident that I can ask the Operator (over the Radio) to take this job for me and to pick up the customer?? I guess not - as this can open up plenty of problems with people touting and then asking the operator to write the job down. Any ideas? |

i would thought if the passengers are coming back to your town, why they cannot phone up your firm and book a cab |

Thank the customer for providing you with an opportunity to break the law and then explain to them that you are not licensed for public hire in this particular area. Regards JD |

I understand that I am not licensed for "Public" hire within that area. And I would not want someone from a different area coming into mine and picking up passengers. But this whole business seems very "flaky" - as I guess if I cannot Radio the job in. I can give the customer a business card and ask them to ring the number and subsequently do the job. |

Well if he had a brain then he would have rung your firm and asked if there were any cars near by. As for the touting issue, if you have numbers on your car and a customer notes that down and rings for a car, then I can't see how you are touting. Maybe if you stop and start dishing out cards, but otherwise no. |

Well a private hire driver tried that once and he was convicted of plying for hire. I know I posted the case on here as a guest quite some time ago but I can't find the damm thing, which is most irritating. I think it is time for another case of that description just to clarify the position for both out of area hackney carriages and private hire drivers. Touting and illegal plying for hire denote two different offences but I suppose circumstances could prevail where both offences are commited at the same time? Regards JD |

Medway......If the Disgruntled customer had not been such a daft Pr*ck he would have pre booked you take him home in the first place.....your better off without that kind of whiner as a customer and focus more on the deserving ones... |
