Post subject:  Greetings!

Evenin' all!

I couldn't find an introductory section, so posted here.

I have just sold my business, sick of Employees, Suppliers paying me bonus's late, and the cost of premises.

So, I PX'd my car for a year old C200 and plan on offering Welwyn Garden City a licenced Hackney service, combined with PH and low cost (It's only a C Class!) Chauffeur service.

Go on, tell me I am wasting my time.....

My [edited by admin] plan consists of working where and when I can, and spending my spare time (Usually in daylight hours in nice weather) on my Boat.

I have a website of some reasonable quality coming soon, and after I have completed the usual checks and a local knowledge, hopefully I'll be gracing the local ranks.

Any tips etc would be gratefully recieved, thank you for reading my first post!

Regards, John (www.welwyntaxi.co.uk very soon!)

Welcome aboard John. \:D/

Asking what's good and what's not would take a very long time, why not try reading the 113,000 posts on TDO. At last count at least 5 were good.

Look after your punters, keep the car clean, and be on time, are three things that should help.

Oh, and keep safe, cos there are some right dodgy folks out there, and that's just other drivers.

Most kind

So, the big question. I f I offer a decent range of services, and Lady of the Night myself around in a reasonably professional manner, Am I likely to make a miserable loss, or a well earnt living?

I need to clear around £2500 per month, will spoil punters with prompt arrival, nice smooth journey and polite banter, does this matter, or are they all charlatans? :?

Any tips (Non monetary of course!) are gratefully recieved, I'm newer than Barack Obama at all this, but wish to make a splendid job of things....

Generally, the more unsocial hours you work, the more you will earn.

I would guess whatever service you are aiming for, there will be several already out there offering it. So grabbing a slice ain't going to be easy.

I would work like a **** for a month or two, by that I mean every hour possible at the weekends, and most during the week, see what you can earn and go from there.

It might be worth driving someone else's for a while, just in case this job ain't for you.

But if you can get past the first six months then you could well be a lifer. Poor sod.

C Class= Big mistake. It ain't big enough.

An E class a year or two older would be much better bet.

And be consistent with your standards, if you are a collar and tie man when punting for business always ensure your a collar and tie man, whatever time of the day or night when providing it.

You will be lucky to clear 2500 running with just one car. You will need 'friendly' agreements with similar service providers from nearby areas.

And income fluctuates so learn to appreciate the good months and not expect it every month.

Or, you could buy a real taxi and stand out from the never ending procession of Mondeo's that ply their trade around WGC.

Seriously though, have you done much research on the area?
Every time I'm shopping there, the taxi rank down by the front of the Station shopping mall seems to remain static in comparison with Stevenage which has a decent station and a decent nightlife on the retail park.

Just food for thought.

I doubt Obama would pass the fit and proper person test.
