Taxi driver's paltry reward for honesty A taxi driver in Romania has been given a £20 reward after he found and returned £7,000 that was left in his car. Adrian Popa, a taxi driver in Alba Iulia in central Romania, gets about 60p for an average journey. He found the money in a bag after dropping off a pair of tourists at a hotel, said local daily Evenimentul Zilei. The £7,000 was seven times his annual wage. He said: "About an hour after I dropped them off I noticed that there was a small bag on the back seat while waiting in the taxi queue. "I opened it up to see if there was any ID in there so I could give it back and I nearly collapsed in shock when I saw the money. "Luckily, there was a passport, and I recognised one of the tourists from the hotel and so I went back there and found them just relaxing on their balcony. Their faces turned white when I gave the bag back to them. "And then they gave me £20 as a reward." Popa got another £20 from his boss as an 'honesty bonus' after his company heard what he had done. |
