For a private hire firm to charge its drivers extra over christmas to pay for the 'office staffs' extra wages? Two of the three companies charge their drivers an extra £20-£30 for the privelidge of working over christmas as they make more money, ignoring the fact that they make less in January and February. One firm, probably the biggest, one of the owners attitude is that if you don't like it then you can fook off, he's also said that if any drivers get together and decide not to pay he will fire them all, which I doubt very much as in the end he will be losing valuable rent money for the rest of the years. There has been plenty of 'talk' in recent years about drivers not paying but as usual nothing is ever done. Any other areas who have firms who do the same? |

It's a disgrace, and evidence of a p*** poor business plan and of a firm run by shysters.

so what they OUGHT to do is get together........and start thier own taxi company, as a co-op, shared costs, and teach gobby a lesson and do it fast, this side of xmas, stealing his trade and denying him half his fleet, 20 cars sharing base/op costs would pay peanuts i think its called a TOA ................... |

Yes, and the staff are paid accordingly by the firm

We don't.
£4 on each fare, great if it's a short one, crap if it's a long one. And still they'll moan about it. |

MY firm are charging £50 wether you work over the festive period or not. All the firms in the area do the same thing, I don't agree with it, but what can I do? Christmas in my part of london is dead! |

Yes Tariff 3 on Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, Boxing Day, New Years Eve and New Years Day. Tariff 3 = Tariff 1 +50% Tariff 2 = Tariff 1 +25% Tariff 2 is everynight from midnight til 5am. I mainly work nights so to work on Tariff 3 is only a 20% jump from Tariff 2, I've worked the full hit at Tariff 3 in the past but only do a bit of it now. Were you implying that because we have a Tariff 3 it's OK for the firm to charge its drivers extra over Christmas? |

If I got a 200 mile journey Mr SPH, I don't think I would worry about the £4. That's about a £500 job, I think that would probably do me for the day.

It's the norm here to pay Double settle over the 2 week period. Do we get double the work or double the earnings or does father christmas exist of course not. I'm all for setting up a co-operative taxi co. but taxi drivers are notoriously all talk and no action. Apart from which if 20 drivers left our place they wouldn't even notice and as to whether they would care I doubt that very much they just give the sets out to the next 20 people with the cash. |

Lets see it's approx. 350 drivers at a settle of £85.00 per week. Surely you can't expect them to pay it out of THIER own pockets. OMG they may have to go without something
