Post subject:  How to get to the truth behind rumours
Rumour has it that there is available a £2,500 start up grant for new business, a £20,000 interest free loan to buy a HC, a free badge and a TomTom to boot for new would be taxi drivers. All available from our LA. The trouble is I'm not sure how to verify the rumour as it is apparently only available to new would be taxi drivers sitting the btec and of an ethnic minority. I did think of just ringing the LA to see if there is any truth in the rumour but not sure if they would tell me anyway. Has anybody else heard of anything like it with their LA's.

The story goes like this.... a friend of a friend was doing the btec cos they are thinking of becoming a taxi driver. There was also an ethnic minority person doing the same. A person running the btec asked the ethnic minority person wether they would be HC or PH and they indicated HC and was given the info as above. They then asked the friend of a friend the same question and preceded to ask if they were aware of the cost of buying a new HC, the cost of a badge etc no mention of the info as above.

I have no objection to ethnic minorities being taxi drivers so long as they achieve it in exactly the same way none ethnic minorities do and they speak English. I also have no objection to people being given assistance to become taxi drivers so long as it is available to everybody fairly.

Any ideas of how to find out if there is any substance to this rumour cos we all know what some people are like :^o

sounds pretty much what our former mayor of daftness tried to implement in London, in fact i may be right in saying that it was implemented; "the ethnic knowledge" as it infamously became known.

i know for sure EU migrants have been getting £3000 for a car, and a free PAYG mobile phone, so maybe its nearer to the truth than we (or some) would like to think...


fake up a good sounding email addy at google.com and email the LA...

shake the bushes, see what falls out

I've slept on this and whilst I'm inclined to believe it is a rumour I'm going to ask the guy from the btec. I'll let you know what is said but I don't believe if it is true I'll be told anyway so a bit of a pointless exercise but I'll ask anyway

I heard a good one that allegedly took place.

One of our owner drivers has been done with curb crawling, he was first stopped for speeding and using a mobile phone while driving, half an hour earlier
When asked why he stopped for the woman he said she waved him down so ilegal plying for hire was also included in Edinburgh of all places

Ok I asked and the first reply was "what do you mean" the second reply was "there is a lot of help available to get people into work especially if they are on DLA"

So at the end of the day I'm none the wiser :?

If I ever find out the truth I'll certainly post it. Oh yes and in answer to whether it would be racial discrimination who knows I would say so but has anybody ever heard of whites being racially discriminated against in the Uk :wink:

Smacks of an us and them form of racism if this is the case.... They can get it all for nothing and we can say nothing for fear of being BAD people....
