This week we have been handed a little slip of paper with the following on it.

Call Sign.........(must be entered). Cut off date Monday 24th November

We have been approached by several drivers regarding the fare tariff over Christmas and New Year period

The periods are 1800 hrs 24 Dec. 2008 to 0600 hrs 27 Dec 2008 & 1800 hrs 31 Dec 2008 to 0600 hrs 2 Jan 2009

The proposals are
a) FARE & HALF (will be advertised in local press)
b) DOUBLE FARE
c) ANY OTHER OPTIONS FROM DRIVERS (write overleaf)
Tick appropriate box
As usual no extra settle will be charged

This has been handed out to all of the drivers to complete. We have been told if we do not enter our call sign it will be binned without reading. The normal rate for our borough at this time of year is DOUBLE FARE and we pay DOUBLE SETTLE which is collected throughout the year in our weekly settle which is why there is no extra to pay at this time.

A couple of the drivers seem to think that it is a little unfair that we have to put our call signs on the paper but we understand why they have said that so they don't get a load of stick of anybody. They also feel they are being blackmailed into FARE & HALF because that is the only one they are going to advertise.

The fact that approx. 350 drivers pay £85.00 per week doesn't warrant proper advertising the rest of the year is a thorn in the side of most drivers.

So there we were thinking our opinions don't count when up pops this little gem they're asking us what we think so I'm asking you :)

My view is starting the extra rates at 18.00 is a tad daft. All that will do is increase bus patronage.

Make it 21.00 or 22.00 when the buses start to go home to bed, and punters have no choice.

at the end of the day you have no say in it, except that YOU charge what YOU want in a PH, obviously a HC is set on a meter.

as a PH (and a HC to all intent) on a circuit you are the goods and chattel of the owner, "put up or shut up"

the rich get richer and the poor get poorer

The starting time has been like that since 19 dot. It's not neg. it's the actual fare rates they want an opinion of. :D

We are fare and a half from 6 PM on the 24th to 6 AM on the 27th
then from 6 PM 0n the 31st to 6 AM on the 3rd.

If you charge double fares you get more abuse and less work

There is one central base where all the computer and telephonist and operator are. There is a pick up base at weekends down town. There are defunct bases with buzzers on at 2 locations and there are 4 fingers in the pie. It is all computerised but there is "pudding" for some. As we all know there are no perfect systems.

Are you an employee of the PH firm or are you self employed and affiliate yourself with them?
