Just had this nice reply.

Dear Sussex ( :D )

Thank you for contacting us.

I have checked your website, taxi-driver.co.uk, and can confirm that it is up and working correctly without any errors or issues from our end.

This may be a browser caching issue. Please clear your browser cache, or try accessing the website in an incognito/private browsing window, and then check again.

If you have any further questions, please let us know.

So, in time, the issue will disappear. [-o<

Resource Limit Is Reached

The website is temporarily unable to service your request as it exceeded resource limit. Please try again later.

So it was fine for a while after the last time, but it's gradually starting appear a lot again.

Anyone else seeing it?

When it first started months and months ago it always seemed to be in the hour or two after midnight, but recently it's been appearing anytime I've been on.

That said, it's usually just a question of trying again after half a minute or so, and there's been no evidence of total unavailability for minutes on end like last time round.

So as long as I remember to copy anything I'm working on to the clipboard before clicking the button 8-[

getting this 70 to 80 % of all visits lately but usually the general section so I'm wondering if maybe the gripe of the day thread is causing problems due it's size ?

I doubt that makes any difference, Edders, because a very long thread like the moan-of-the-day one will only pull up the latest page of the thread, because the software rearranges long threads into separate pages via the underlying database storing all the post and other info.

So, in fact, if there's a new page started on the gripes thread and there's only a couple of posts on it, then that'll take up less bandwidth than a single page newer thread with 10 posts on it, say :-o

And, of course, it also depends on the content of each post on the thread. 10 very short posts may take up less resources than a single post of 1,000 words, say.

And which in fact reverts back to what I've always been saying about the quote function. If someone's quoting a couple of hundred words to just add half-a-dozen as a response, then that's using a lot of unnecessary bandwidth [-(

The message from the boffins recently was to purge your caches and log on incognito.

Which may or may not help. :-k

My un-expert opinion is that the boffins' advice is utter gash [-(

Indeed, I think the cleaner passed that on.

By all accounts, it's caused by a Singapore bot, and the answer is to route stuff through Cloudflare.

the company that provides the website and back office at the NVR restricts the site to uk only because of problems caused by bots. I probably deal with 20 to 30 emails a year complaining that they can't access the site but people in continental Europe and Australia don't seem to have heard of VPN's.

Now it's that error above, plus the other one about my IP address being blocked because it's 'blacklisted'...

Seems to be back to normal now, but couldn't even do a basic edit or post for about ten minutes :-o

Ironically, it was the post I was trying to make with this complaint

Fingers crossed, but things seemed to change late last night, and despite checking periodically since then, the message hasn't appeared again, at least at my end :-o

And the forum seems a lot more responsive as well, and the pages load almost immediately, whereas recently there's usually been a more obvious delay of a second or two, or even a few seconds.

So praise be to the forum administrators [-o< =D>

And to those mysterious boffins, wherever they are. And to the cleaners

A little adjustment was made in the site's back office.

The senior boffin, not the cleaner, told admin the IP range that was causing the issues, so that IP range has been black balled.
