As far as I can make out Skippy, it does not allow PH onto bus stops, and that is what the Plymouth PH are dripping about.

No problem for the Hackney drivers.

Indeed one parking adjudicator said that it was preposterous to suggest that a driver arriving to pick up a passenger should act like a Formula One driver performing a pitstop with the passenger diving into the vehicle and the vehicle taking off

I just love this summary :lol:

I know that Chris, but the PH want the same rites to drop/pick up as the hacks everywhere else and this driver was a PH, as you article stated PH can only drop pick at designated areas

I see it as a two trades thing - it's in the name, PRIVATE hire. They, de facto, are not PUBLIC hire or put another way they are not PUBLIC TRANSPORT. Hackney Carriages are Public Transport.

The status quo on the Bus stop issue is therefore correct.

As to the judgement however, I totally agree with it.

Remind me which statutes say hackneys are public transport but PH are not? :?

Well Sussex I simply infer it I suppose.

Just things like insurance that allows me to to use my Taxi for "Public or Private hire". My licence which allows me to "ply for hire". The Statutory Instrument No 3113 of 2002, regulation 29, schedule 19, para 4 (d).

But that lot will do for me to be getting on with. :wink:

That may well lead you to believe that hackneys are public transport, but I still can't see anything that points to PH not being public transport.

It has been pointed out in another post that hackneys are not, I repeat not public transport. Public transport is zero rated for VAT, hackneys are not zero rated.

it is clear that Hackneys ARE part of the PUBLIC TRANSPORT SYSTEM Vat is an issue all vehicles below 9 seats are vat rated, yes but you are splitting hairs here Hacknets can as can Private Hire vehicles in certain circumstances claim fuel grant the post office manages to claim grant on post buses with as few as 2 passenger seats, the same applies that vehicles with as few as 2 passenger seats can take pensioner cards and disabled cards with payment coming from The County Council payable monthly;

It's high time Taxi Driver online became a lobbying site and the Administrators led campaigns for both Taxis and Private Hire vehicles to be zero-rated for vat purposes but being like bus companies still retaining vat registration to be able to keep powers to reclaim vat paid for vehicles, fuel, and other vat expenses like maintenance and such like
plying for hire and picking up in the street is a privilege to be treasured.
