maximum standards surely?

What I meant by minimal was "small in amount or degree" or "only barely adequate", to use definition from one online dictionary.

Ie a bit like 'bog standards'.

For the avoidance of doubt, I was being sarcastic about the LC's view on how well pre-booked markets work for consumers, as per my previous posts in other threads.

National safety standards for taxis will be minimum safety standards; therefore minumum safety standards for private hire will be maximum safety standards, or to quote;

We refer to private hire services standards as mandatory because they act as both a minimum and maximum regulatory standard.

By which they mean the same standard will apply throughout the country?

Which could on the one hand refer to the Brighton PH standard or the London PH standard on the other hand.

But because it's actually the latter it's a minimal standard, surely, ie a bog standard.

Maybe it should be called the 'minimum requirement'?

Cos calling it a standard implies good things, when I'm not sure that this requirement would be good if adopted.

I think personally I'd call it 'whatever the ph spivs think' because thats whats going to happen, and we all know it, and if you dont, then I'll willingly deploy the window licker argument (happy gus?)

Well I think the phrase 'bog standard' is well understood and sums the LC's proposal up nicely. [-(

However, we do not consider the Law Commission as the appropriate forum for making such critical judgments.

15.25

It'll go out to consultation and then be watered down to suit everyone.

In other words sh*te standards

The Law Commission wrote:
Under our provisional proposals the scope of standard setting powers granted to the Secretary of State and Welsh Ministers would only extend to conditions relating to the safety of taxi and private hire services.

And as stated elsewhere for PH that's a medical and CRB. (And a box-ticking exercise on disability awareness).

So what's to water down?

That will certainly have a negative effect on the level of standards customers receive.

However I'm hoping that particular avenue will be reversed, as why change something that, in the main, is working.

I don't think they're planning on reversing anything they'll probably just pass the buck and let somebody else decide what the standards will be, after a consultation of course
