I've put this in the Cab Act Section as I think it should be noticed by the Law Commission and anyone else supporting bog standard requirements for PH.

Following a message from a London PH rep I asked the head of TfL's Taxi Section what the retention rate is for London licensed private hire drivers i.e. those that do, and those that don't renew their driver's license when they expire.

I'm grateful to Mr John Mason for his speedy reply, in which he confirmed that in the first 5 months of this year (2012) 55.8% of drivers who's licenses expired renewed.

Which means that 44.2% of drivers, whose licenses run out this year, have decided to leave the trade for good.

I find that stat quite shocking.

Borrowed that stat for an article

These things don't start without an end game already in the pot. However OFT didn't get their way, and I thought they would.

As for this report, well I would be amazed if 99.9% of it didn't end up in a bill, but changes could be made before it becomes an act.

However if any of the biggies get changed the whole house of cards comes tumbling down, which indicates to me it's a case of all (or nearly all) or nothing.

Hang in there T, it's not all done and dusted and even if it is we can launch an objection nationally before they can bring any changes, even if that simply extends things it's still worth doing as it will take another 2 years getting to court and then another 2 before any changes ruled on can be put in place,

Worst case do what I'm going to, I'm going to sit it out day and night to make sure the new seeds can't economically survive.

I was being sarcastic... so many people saying nothing will happen... and yet in the corridors of power.... people in the back ground spin their evil webs.....

This is an old paper, but what is interesting is that it has been updated very recently.

Now why would there be a need to update it on 8th June 2012 I wonder?

I suspect it was updated to inform MPs who no-doubt are being asked by their constituents.

However what jumps out at me is off all the 73 questions/proposals being set out in the report, it appears the trade are only asking their MPs about one bit.

Which sums up this trade to a Tee. [-(
