There will be a hackney carriage and private hire trades meeting with some of the Law Commission team that are involved in ‘Reforming the law of taxi and private hire services’ on Thursday 16th August 2012 in central Birmingham.

The Law Commission team are meeting Birmingham City Council’s Licensing Committee [hard hats required] and the city’s licensing officers in the afternoon on that day at the Council House, but this will be a closed meeting to which the public will not have access.

The taxi and private hire trades are having the morning session with the Law Commission at a different venue, which has been booked and paid for.

This meeting is open to all hackney carriage and private hire proprietors, drivers, operators and representatives. Other stakeholders are also welcome to attend.

There is a small booking fee for attendees of £6.00 per head to cover room hire and ancillary costs.

If you wish to attend this meeting please email your expression of interest to zakstaxiservice@hotmail.co.uk and full details will be emailed to you.

A limited number of places are available at this consultation meeting and they will be allocated in the order in which booking forms and payments are received on a STRICTLY FIRST COME BASIS!

They have to pay to attend this time.

That will cut the numbers down from the 3,000 last time - drastically!!

Perhaps they shouldn't cut the numbers down, just so the LC can experience the full extent of the problem

Now that would be a good idea, but sadly I have no wish to risk well over £1,000 for the room hire fee for such a large venue just to prove a point.

I'd be inclined to agree with you if the LC hadn't said to me so many times 'provide the evidence'

I just get the strong gut feeling that if you produced enough evidence to the LC that would convince a Grand Jury 50-times over, it would still make no difference at all.

Yeah but just think of the fun you'd have doing it and the nightmares that may ensue every time they closed their eyes :D

It's far better to have them queuing up outside to get in, rather than a half empty large room.

That won't happen, as attendance is by pre-booking and payment only.

There is a maximum number of 29 places available from the start, because I'm going too, although a larger 50-person capacity room may be substituted, if it's still available for that day and the original meeting room is over-subscribed.

There will be no admittance at the door, even if places are still unfilled, which is highly unlikely.

You mentioned that you took a view that the LC were going through the motions, that's exactly what the likes of Halcrow do every three years.
