Hi all, having been a cabby for last 5 years in Derby, i for one am glad that Gedling Borough Council and other neighboring Councils have introduced a knowledge test. This will clear a lot of drivers.

However im concerned there will be other avenues which these license holders will go down. I have seen a couple of plates from different regions driving already here in Derby. If we can name and shame the councils hopefully they will follow Gedling route and clamp down on out of town license holder.

To name a few:
Bolsover District Council - No knowledge test.
High peak Council - No knowledge test
Rhonda canyon taff

Any other councils who dont have knowledge tests. We need to name and shame them so they follow suit and introduce knowledge tests.

Thanks for contributing/reading the thread.

Rossendale have over 1350 hackneys; nearly all of them working Manchester, nearly all of them illegally plying for hire. Rossendale don't care, they pick up the licence fees but have no enforcement costs, no badge checking, no-one knows who is driving the cars. Rossendale gets my vote for the most irresponsible council.

exactly, this is the problem.

are there any other councils with no local knowledge test????

also like rossendale, they allow saloon cars to qualify as hackney carriage vehicles despite not being wheelchair friendly.

theres few and far between. Alot have gone down the Gedling route and have introduced long awaited knowledge test in the last 6 months.

Why is that a problem?

no problem really, in fact im in favor of this ruling. Buying a yellow cab would price me out when its time to upgrade my vehicle.

these gedling drivers here in derby already have mentioned rossendale as a potential route to follow along with the 3 i mentioned above. Are there further districts/councils with no knowledge tests?????

Because it is unlawful perhaps?

What is unlawful in having saloons as Hackney Carriages? Which law states that all Hackney Carriages must be WAVs?

Seen black Audi a4 with erewash hackney plate here in Derby. I guess gedling drivers already found alternative arrangements.
