They could have made it correct as well. Private hire vehicles/minicabs A private hire vehicle (PHV), or ‘minicab’, is defined in section 80 of the 1976 Act as: … a motor vehicle constructed or adapted to seat [fewer than nine passengers], other than a hackney carriage or public service vehicle [or a London cab] [or tramcar], which is provided for hire with the services of a driver for the purpose of carrying passengers This definition specifically excludes taxis and buses but does not make any distinction between chauffeur-type services and conventional PHV services. The only exemption from licensing permitted under the 1976 Act is for a vehicle on a hire contract for more than seven days and a vehicle being used for a funeral. |
