Northern Ireland have a new taxi act starting at the end of next month.

There is a single tier, but its totally confusing.

My son read me something about how it is supposed to work in NI. Jesus I was confused to hell. Class 1, class2 and class3??? some with top signs some without some with meters some without. I gave up.

If class 3 is actually class C it states;

Class C Taxis currently licensed as ‘Private Hire’ and solely used for weddings and funerals will automatically become Class C

Class C taxis can only be used on a pre-booked basis and must carry details of their booking in the taxi during the journey.

Class C taxis must not display a roof sign or advertise as a taxi service but must display an internal sign.

Examples of Class C taxis are vehicles used for chauffeur services, weddings, funerals and courtesy transport.

Class C Taxis must display a small internal sign. They cannot display roof signs or advertise as a taxi service

I think this act has been going on for a while, so to be honest I doubt at this late stage anything can be done.

If the new act allows Uber to do what you say, then I suspect it will allow others to do likewise.

The way taxi drivers and operators license and use their taxis changed. A new taxi licence test replaced the current Public Service Vehicle (PSV) test. There are new classes of taxis, a new maximum fare structure, the introduction of taximeters and printers,
