Woman taxi driver assaulted and robbed
A FEMALE taxi driver was forced to drive around for more than two hours before being assaulted and robbed in a layby near Gayton on Sunday (28/09). The 35-year-old driver picked up a man and three women from Bridge Street in Weedon at around 2.30am in a blue Peugeot 406.
She was forced to drive from the Weedon area, possibly in the direction of Bicester, before stopping in a layby on the A43 northbound at around 4.45am.
One of the passengers then used an object to hit the driver over the head before stealing £120, and the group fled in a car that had been parked in the layby. The driver suffered cuts to the head and was treated by paramedics at the scene.
Sgt Julie Gallagher, of Northants Police, said: "This is a very unusual incident and we continue to work very closely with Taxi Watch." The four were all white and between 20 and 25 years old. The man was of stocky build, around 5'6'' tall, and clean-shaven with short hair.
The first woman was heavily-built with blonde shoulder-length hair, while the second was of stocky build with black shoulder-lenth hair. Both were 5'6'' tall. The third woman was of slim build and around 5'3'' tall with blonde shoulder-length feathered hair.
A red van with a 'T' registration was parked in the layby at the time, and police are appealing for the driver to come forward. Anyone with information should contact Northants Police on 08453 700700.
