I thought this was right for this time of year. The Parting of the Three.
Let me tell you about the three
Though it’s quite a sad and lonely story
Mother, Father and a young son
A happy family, as the story’s begun
The three went out one evening
They went for a quiet little drive
But now one is a-grieving
The only one left alive
The reason that they didn’t last
Wasn’t that they drove too fast
And don’t blame fate for being unkind
To the one that’s left behind
The mother was a nurse so kind
Long hours - Poor pay - She didn’t mind
But now we look around to find
The one that’s left behind
Think then of the little boy
Growing up with lovely toys
But one selfish move did destroy
This parent’s little bundle of joy
The man said “I’ll go for a pint”
But then decided to stay all night
By half-past ten he’d had a few
Do you know what he then did do?
He got in his car to drive himself home
You know what’s coming in this sad tome
He met the three coming the other way
Couldn’t drive so straight, so the three did pay
Can anybody tell me why
Two of the three had to die?
Can someone please explain why
One was left to sit and cry?
So weep for the mother
Now departed
Let them flow
Don’t be hard-hearted
And weep for the boy
Now gone to heaven
Finished so soon
He’ll never see seven
But if you wish to be truly kind
You’ll weep for the one left behind
For while they’ve left for life’s next stage
He now is headed for a lonely old age.
