Men attack taxi driver

A Telford taxi driver was assaulted by a group believed to be carrying a knife in an early morning Christmas Day attack. The driver of a black cab was punched in the face after taking five men from Oakengates to Malinslee at about 12.15am on Saturday.

Seats were damaged in the cab and the driver was punched through an open window.

Police said initial reports suggested the group also wielded a knife, but it was not used in the attack.

A police spokesman said the driver suffered minor injuries in the assault.

Suspect sought in Rockford cab robbery

ROCKFORD -- Police are looking for the man who robbed a Rockford Yellow Cab Co. driver at gunpoint early Saturday.

According to police reports, the cab was dispatched to the 4000 block of Auburn Street to pick up a fare. The driver arrived and was met by a man who demanded his money while pointing a small chrome-plated handgun at him.

The robber made off with an undisclosed amount of cash and fled on foot. The suspect is described as a black male in his 20s, about 5 feet, 6 inches, weighing 160 pounds with a medium build and having gold front teeth. He was wearing a gray stocking cap, gray sweat shirt and blue jeans.
