Taxi driver hurt in knifepoint robbery in Guildford

A taxi driver was left with cuts to his face and hands and bruises to his nose after being robbed at knifepoint and headbutted by a passenger in Surrey.

The attacker called the taxi to pick him up at London Road railway station in Guildford at 0630 GMT on Friday and asked to be taken to the nearest shop.

He bought cigarettes at Martins Newsagent in the High Street, then asked to be take to Eastgate Gardens.

Once there, he pulled out the knife and grabbed a bag of cash and a sat-nav. After the attack the robber got away with a haul worth £200.

Det Con Dave Pellatt said: "This was a nasty attack on a man who was simply trying to do his job."

CCTV images have been released of the suspect and anyone with information has been asked to come forward.

He is described as white with a round face and light coloured stubble. He was aged between 30 and 40, 5ft 11in tall and "chubby".

He was wearing a dark beanie hat, a black padded jacket and black tracksuit bottoms with white stripes.
