Hyundai's Sonata and Elantra to Dominate Taxi Industry in Beijing
Hyundai Motor, Korea's biggest automaker, will become the largest supplier of cars used for taxis in China's capital city.
The Beijing municipal government has designated Hyundai's mid-sized Sonata and compact Elantra passenger cars as the city's new, standard taxi models, along with Volkswagen's Santana 3000s and Dongfeng Motor's Elise. Hyundai said by 2008, more than half of all taxis in Beijing will be replaced with the Sonata or Elantra models.
Hyundai operates a Chinese joint venture and has produced 200,000 vehicles in China over the past two years, the shortest period for such output among auto firms operating there.
The Koreans are coming, somebody better inform Coventry!
