Thug caged for knife attack on taxi driver in Widnes

June 9 2011

A thug who launched a frenzied and unprovoked knife attack on a taxi driver in Widnes has been jailed.

Scott Ormesher, of Fender Court, Birkenhead, left his victim with multiple stab wounds and severed hand tendons after the vicious attack on September 11 last year.

The incident occurred in the early hours of the morning when the victim picked up two men from Wavertree in Liverpool, one of whom was Scott Ormesher.

Ormesher directed the taxi driver to Widnes, where the other passenger was dropped off.

He then directed the driver to a remote country lane where he launched an unprovoked attack on him.

During the attack Ormesher repeatedly stabbed the victim causing cuts to his hands and legs. A knife wound to the victim’s hand was so severe that it cut through his palm and severed six tendons.

A member of the public disturbed Ormesher, who got back into the taxi and forced the driver, whose hand was paralysed from the attack, to drive back into Widnes.

On the journey the taxi driver managed to jump from the cab and fled to police officers who were conducting a stop check nearby.

The victim was hospitalised and had to undergo an operation to re-attach the tendons in his hand.

Ormesher, 26, pleaded guilty to the attack and was handed an indeterminate public protection order which means he could never be released from prison.

He was told he would have to serve a minimum of three years and seven months before he can be considered for parole.

DC Tom Hall, who investigated the case, said: “Scott Ormesher launched a gratuitously violent and unprovoked attack on an innocent member of the public, which resulted in the victim receiving serious injuries.

"Detectives in Halton conducted a lengthy and detailed investigation, which led to Scott Ormesher pleading guilty to this attack."

“A dangerous man is now off the streets for some time."

“I would personally like to thank the victim and those members of the public in Widnes who have greatly assisted the police during this investigation.”
