Man arrested after women mistake his car for a taxiA MAN was arrested after he drove off when four women got in his car mistaking it for a taxi.
Police are today warning women to take extra care following the incident, early on Saturday morning.
At 4.20am four women, aged 30, 32 and two aged 21, got into a silver Ford Ka outside the Happy Chippy in Waterloo Street, Newcastle, thinking it was a a taxi.
The three women in the back seat realised their mistake and began arguing with the man.
The women who were on the back seat of the car got out. However, the front seat passenger was prevented from leaving the vehicle,which was then driven a short distance down Waterloo Street before stopping. The woman was able to get out of the car after a short struggle.
A 32-year-old man was arrested on Friday morning in connection with the incident and is still being questioned by police.
