Middlesbrough festive taxi fair boost

HACKNEY carriage drivers in Middlesbrough are delivering a festive and Bank Holiday bonus to the travelling public.

The enhanced fares rate at Christmas and New Year for Hackney carriages in the town will operate for a shorter period. On other Bank Holidays the enhanced rate will no longer be applied.

The usual tariff applied by Hackney carriages in the town is £2.80 for the first mile and £1.50 for each mile thereafter. The Bank Holiday tariff is £3.80 for the first mile and £2.20 for each subsequent mile.

Because of the move by the Hackney Carriage Association the enhanced rate will now start from 6pm on Christmas Eve, instead of noon.

It runs to 6am on December 27. At New Year the enhanced rate starts at 6pm, instead of noon, on New Year’s Eve and runs through to 6am on January 2. On other Bank Holidays the enhanced rates will not be applied.

I must admit that we end up charging tariff 1 xmas eve but customers will not pay more during the day and night time is dead untill gone 11pm so it will probably help trade rather than decrease earnings

I go by the book, if it says Tariff 3 it's Tariff 3, if they were working over Christmas they'd be on double time and the rest. If they don't like it they can give it legs.
